Water System

bullet

Oasis is a fresh water only boat. Even the electric heads use fresh water, and as a result there is no unpleasant "head smell."

bullet

Water Storage: Oasis carries plenty of water in two tanks. 100 gallons under the forward berth and 50 gallons under the aft cabin berth. The status of your water level is monitored with an electronic tank monitoring system. However, these gages are not always a reliable method of determining how much water remains in the tanks. Managing the distribution of the water is the best way of determining when you are at risk of running out of fresh water.

WATER MANAGEMENT TIP #1: Be sure to fill BOTH the forward and aft water tanks before your departure.

WATER MANAGEMENT TIP #2: The forward head draws water from the forward tank. The aft head draws water from the aft tank.

WATER MANAGEMENT TIP #3: The taps draw fresh water according to how the water distribution valves are set. We suggest that your initial setting should be drawing water only from the forward tank. Doing this will insure that you know when you are down to your last 50 gallons of water (less the water used by the aft head).

How to manage water tank distribution

The water tanks are managed by a set of valves located under the salon settee.

Located within this area is a brass valve set, filters and pumps that control the fresh water distribution system as well as the bilge sump pump. The hot water (11 gallons) heater (square galvanized tank not shown) is also located here.

There are two sliver knobs that control the valves pictured here. The one of the left controls the forward tank (100 gallons). The one on the right controls the aft tank (50 gallons).

As pictured above, the silver knobs are in the horizontal position. As such, both tanks are closed and no water will flow through any of the taps.

As pictured above, the forward tank is open and the aft tank is closed. This is the recommended setting during your charter, as water will only be drawn from the forward tank. This will leave your aft tank as a 50 gallon reserve (unless you have been using the aft head which also draws water directly from this tank.)

WATER MANAGEMENT TIP #4: You will know that you are out of water when the tap is open, the water pump is working and no water comes out of the tap. CAUTION: You may find that with the taps closed the water pump continues to run. Do not let the water pump continue to run dry. Shut off power to the water system at the panel

This is a symptom that you are very low on water or that you have air in the line. To correct this, open a tap, restore power to the water system and let the air bleed out until water flows. If water does not flow, it means that the tank you are using is empty. Switch to the reserve (aft) tank. To accomplish this,  close the forward tank valve and open the aft tank valve as pictured below.

In the position pictured above, the forward tank is shut off and the aft tank is open. With the valves in this position, you are now drawing water from the 50 gallon aft tank.

WATER MANAGEMENT TIP #5: Do not run the water system with the valves in the position pictured below.

If you allow the valves to remain in the position below, it means that you will be drawing water from both tanks. Doing so will mean that should you run out of water, you will not have a reserve. You do not want this to happen as you will not have water to flush the heads.

Water Management Tip #6: LEAVE AFT WATER TANK (the valve on the right pictured above) CLOSED AT ALL TIMES!

Contrary to what you may have been told, while aboard Oasis you should leave the aft tank (50 gallon) closed at all times. Doing so will preserve the water available for flushing the aft head. If you run out of fresh water for the aft head, you will not be able to flush it except by using the head faucet (with the valves set to the primary tank (the valve on the left pictured above).

IN SUMMARY: Follow these simple steps and you should enjoy your charter with plenty of fresh water.

bullet

Always fill the forward and aft tanks prior to leaving the dock.

bullet

Check the position of the valves. Open the valve to the forward tank and close the valve to the aft tank.

bullet

Carry bottled water for drinking and cooking.

bullet

Conserve water when showering or washing dishes by rinsing with tap on, lather and wash with tap off.

bullet

The toilets use fresh water only. This eliminates that "boat head smell."

bullet

Forward head pulls from the forward water tank. Aft head pulls from the aft water tank.

bullet

The position of the valves has no effect on which tank supplies the heads.

bullet

Flush only long enough to move all waste into holding tank.

bullet

Use single-ply marine toilet paper sparingly in the heads.

bullet

No paper towels! No tampons! No condoms!

bullet

Notify Marina Sailing ASAP should any salt water enter the head or holding tank.

Head Seacock Procedures

bullet

Oasis heads are fresh water only. This eliminates that unpleasant "head smell."

Follow the color coded SEACOCK PROCEDURES located under the sink in each head and you will have no trouble managing the distribution and elimination of waste.

Under the sink in each head you will see five color coded seacocks (The Yellow is out of view). They control drainage to the ocean. Please keep all seacocks closed when not in use.

The "Y Valve" controls the direction of head waste. The Y Valve is color coded to match the seacock.

If you see Yellow, you are directing waste overboard. If you see Green, you are directing waste to the holding tank.

Note that there is a Y Valve marked salt and fresh water. This valve supplies FRESH WATER to the head. It is not to be moved and is zip tied in place. IN CASE OF EMERGENCY when you need to flush the bowl without any water entering the bowl, cut the zip tie and turn the valve to the alternate position.

bullet

IN CASE OF EMERGENCY (i.e., the head is clogged and you need to flush the bowl without any fresh water entering the bowl), cut the zip tie labeled "Dry Flush" and turn the valve to the alternate (red) position. Activate the electric head and by pressing the flush button. The flush will activate but no water will enter the head.

bullet

ONCE CLOG HAS CLEARED RESET THE WATER DISTRIBUTION VALVE AS PICTURED ABOVE.

bullet

NEVER FLUSH THE HEAD DRY AS THIS WILL BURN OUT THE PUMP.

bullet

NOTIFY MARINA SAILING SO THAT THE ZIP TIE AND TAG CAN BE REPLACED AFTER YOUR CHARTER.

Battery & Inverter Operation

Oasis has two banks of batteries. Batter 1 is the start battery. Battery 2 is the house battery bank which consists of 4 large batteries (two located in front of the engine and two located in the port side stern locker. Oasis also has a 2500 watt inverter.

The management of the batteries and the inverter is handled by a Link 2000 panel located under the DC panel at the chart table.

In the picture above you will note the green lights indicating that:

bullet

Charger: This means that the battery charger is on.

bullet

AC In: This Means that the shore power cord is plugged in.

bullet

Float: This means that the battery is nearly fully charged.

bullet

2: This means that the display is reading from the House battery bank

bullet

A hrs: This means that the display is indicating the number of amp hours used (17.3).

IMPORTANT!

bullet

NEVER LET THE BATTERY DISCHARGE SO THAT THE DISPLAY  REACHES -400.0
